Hard Work Pays Off

Me being a scholar of AMY foundation is what I call a product of God’s Perfect Timing. It’s when I lose that I found the way to succeed. Years ago, my father and I had everything planned from my first year in college until I became a Certified Public Accountant but all of it crumbled down when he died on August 2012 when I was still in my first year college. I lost my number one supporter and my family, and having three siblings who were also studying, we faced a financial crisis.

That year was so hard but I have always loved studying and it was never my mother’s choice to make us stop so she worked hard as a factory worker but it was never enough. That was why I took it to myself to study hard to have scholarship grants so that I could help my mother even a bit and by the grace of the Lord I became an AMY Scholar.

For almost five years, 9 semesters to be exact, AMY Foundation paid for my tuition fee and cover some of the expenses for my books. I did take a tough course but the thought of not having to think where to find money for my tuition fee really eased the burden. I concentrated on pursuing my dream not just to help my family but also to show my gratitude for this foundation in the way that I could.

And as a proof of the saying that “hard work pays off” I graduated as a Cum Laude and took an oath as a newly passed Certified Public Accountant. All of this was made possible by this Foundation. Words are never enough to show how thankful I am, so instead, I promised to pay the blessing I received forward, to help another youth who is a victim of unpleasant circumstances to achieve his dreams through studying.

Let us all keep the vision of this foundation burning.

“The darkest nights produce the brightest stars”

I value education so much. I asked myself if I could really go to college since my father (Carlos Lacanlale) is a construction worker and my mother (Dolly Lacanlale) is a housewife only. My dream was made possible because of Alfredo M. Yao (AMY) Foundation partnered with my determination and hard work. The foundation is not just a simple program that helps those students who are willing to study but a sunlight that beams to those flowers (students) who are about to wither (lose hope).
